Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer Review – Nintendo Switch’s Latest Fitness Game Packs a Punch

Nintendo has a rich legacy of fusing physical activity with interactive entertainment, from the balance-focused Wii Fit to the innovative adventure of Ring Fit Adventure.

The Fitness Boxing series, developed by Imagineer and primarily published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, carries on this tradition with workouts designed to make exercise engaging and accessible.

First launched on the Switch eShop in 2018, Fitness Boxing has built a dedicated following.

With the release of Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer on December 5th, 2024, players are being offered the franchise’s most refined fitness experience yet. Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer begins with a comprehensive tutorial, guiding users to grip a Joy-Con in each hand while following rhythmic boxing instructions from a virtual trainer.

Throughout each session, players execute a variety of moves — including jabs, hooks, uppercuts, ducks, and sways — all timed to the background music.

A progress bar and score counter keep participants motivated, rewarding them for precise timing and accuracy with their punches. While the system’s motion controls are generally forgiving, the Joy-Con may occasionally register unintended movements, such as recording a hook when an uppercut is performed.

Despite occasional imprecision, this leniency ensures newcomers are not discouraged and helps maintain a focus on sustained activity rather than punishing precision.

As a rhythm-based fitness title, achieving combo streaks adds a layer of enjoyment and replayability. Guidance throughout each workout is provided by a cast of six voice-acted personal trainers, down from nine in Fitness Boxing 2.

Returning characters Lin, Evan, and Bernardo are joined by newcomers Monica, Stella, and Guy, each bringing their own personality to the sessions.

The reduced roster reflects a shift toward building a more personalized relationship with your chosen instructor — as players train with a specific trainer, they unlock "Box and Bond" episodes that offer additional insight and incremental rewards. Fitness Boxing 3’s accessibility extends to language support, offering English, Korean, Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), and Japanese voice options.

The instructors’ consistent encouragement and reminders — like breathing and staying hydrated — help support healthy habits, especially for those new to routine exercise. Customization options enable players to tailor their instructor’s outfits with unlockable tops, bottoms, accessories, and more.

These are earned through achievements and daily or weekly in-game missions, providing ongoing goals and incentive to keep users engaged.

With a broad array of in-game data tracking, statistics, and monthly ranks, players can monitor their progress and set goals with clarity. Personalization is further evident in the game’s Daily Workout program.

After providing details such as age, height, weight, and preferred fitness objectives, Fitness Boxing 3 calculates BMI for more accurate calorie burn estimates.

Players can focus routines on specific body parts — like core, arms, or legs — and select preferred workout durations.

Over 30 exercises, each available in three intensity levels, ensure depth and variety. All exercises can be selected individually in Free Training mode or shared through a local two-player mode.

Additional options, like "Sit Fit Boxing" for seated workouts and "Mitt Drills" for glove-targeted action, deliver alternative routines.

The soundtrack blends 10 original compositions with 20 instrumental covers of classic hits, including tracks by Elton John, Madonna, and Billie Eilish, with adjustable song speeds to match each user’s pace. Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer continues Nintendo and Imagineer’s commitment to accessible, enjoyable fitness.

Its energetic trainers and forgiving controls help lower barriers for newcomers, while detailed customization and daily progression goals provide replay value for returning players.

Although motion tracking still has minor flaws and the new installment closely mirrors its predecessors, Fitness Boxing 3 stands as a solid and motivating option for Switch owners seeking a gamified workout.

The title is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch, with a free demo downloadable via the eShop.
