Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch 2: 1440p Resolution, Enhanced Features, and June 2025 Release Confirmed

Games has officially detailed the technical specifications and enhanced gameplay features for Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch 2, confirming a major upgrade for fans of the acclaimed wizarding world RPG.

Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy will make its debut on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, launching both physically and on the Nintendo eShop worldwide on June 5, 2025. Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world action role-playing game set in the 1800s wizarding universe, will leverage the full capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2.

Games, the title will offer up to 1440p screen resolution in TV Mode and 1080p in Handheld Mode.

Both modes are set to support High Dynamic Range (HDR), granting richer colors and improved visual depth, while also utilizing NVIDIA’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology for higher graphical fidelity and smooth performance. Players can anticipate tangible improvements over previous hardware iterations.

Enhancements include upgraded lighting and shadow animation quality, superior anti-aliasing, increased frame rates, and significantly reduced loading times.

Avalanche Software’s vice president of technology, Rob Nelson, addressed these advancements in the Creator’s Voice video, stating that the team took full advantage of the upgraded screen size, extra processing power, and the capabilities of Switch 2.

"We were able to achieve greater texture resolution, improved lighting effects, and more intricate character populations, allowing us to deliver a fully realized vision for Hogwarts Legacy," Nelson explained.

He further highlighted how touch screen support, expanded motion controls for aiming and flying, and innovative mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2 provide new ways to experience the game. The open-world design of Hogwarts Legacy invites players to fully immerse themselves in the legendary school of witchcraft and wizardry, as well as iconic locations like Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest.

Key features highlighted by the publisher include unrestricted exploration, the ability to customize your witch or wizard, and an all-new narrative set in a previously unexplored era.

Players will develop magical talents through spellcasting, potion brewing, harvesting plants, and tending to magical beasts, all while solving mysteries and confronting formidable adversaries, from trolls and Dark Wizards to goblins and more.
