Description

Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem, alongside Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, will launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

This announcement marks a significant expansion of the acclaimed survival horror franchise on Nintendo hardware.

The news follows Capcom’s internal efforts to evaluate the technical capabilities of the Switch 2, which has been eagerly anticipated by both fans and industry observers since Nintendo began teasing their next-generation console. In a recent interview, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa provided insight into the development process and Capcom’s decision to bring the latest entries in the series to the Switch 2.

According to Kumazawa, initial plans for Requiem did not include a version for the new Nintendo system, mainly because the platform had not yet been announced when development began.

"When we first started working on Resident Evil Requiem, the Nintendo Switch 2 wasn’t part of our roadmap, as the hardware hadn't been revealed at that time," Kumazawa explained in a discussion with IGN. However, once Nintendo officially introduced the Switch 2, Capcom’s development team began to explore the new hardware’s capabilities.

Kumazawa revealed that the team internally ported Resident Evil Village to the Switch 2 as a test case.

"When the Switch 2 details became available, we began experimenting by porting Resident Evil Village to the platform to see how it performed.

The results were impressive—the game ran very smoothly and looked fantastic on the new system," he noted.

This successful test gave Capcom the assurance needed to proceed with a Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem. Encouraged by these results, Capcom expanded their efforts, deciding to bring not just Requiem but also Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village to the Switch 2.

This move ensures that Switch 2 owners will have access to some of the most significant entries in the Resident Evil franchise from day one.

The decision reflects both the technical prowess of Nintendo’s new hardware and Capcom’s commitment to reaching a broad player base through Nintendo’s eShop and physical releases. Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village have already achieved significant critical and commercial success on other platforms, redefining the survival horror genre for modern audiences.

By expanding to Nintendo Switch 2, Capcom is set to introduce these titles to a wider demographic and further cement the franchise’s legacy on Nintendo consoles. The announcement was made as part of a larger reveal, demonstrating Capcom’s ongoing support for the Switch 2 and signaling more major third-party releases on Nintendo’s forthcoming system.

With Resident Evil Requiem and its predecessors making their way to the Switch 2, Nintendo's next-generation platform is quickly positioning itself as a must-have console for fans of horror and AAA gaming alike.
