Resident Evil Requiem Details Dual-Protagonist Gameplay and Unique Car Collaboration for Nintendo Switch 2

Capcom is poised to redefine survival horror and action synergy with the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, set for release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam on February 27, 2026.

In their latest entry to the acclaimed Resident Evil franchise, Capcom introduces a bold dual-protagonist system that blends traditional horror elements with adrenaline-fueled action, drawing inspiration from fan-favorite titles within the series and offering a unique gameplay rhythm. At the heart of Resident Evil Requiem are Grace Ashcroft and franchise icon Leon S.

Kennedy, whose intertwined journeys are structured in an episodic format reminiscent of Resident Evil Revelations.

Director Akifumi Nakanishi and Producer Masato Kumazawa provided new insight into this fresh approach during an interview with Automaton.

Nakanishi explained that players will alternate between Grace and Leon, enjoying almost equal playtime between the two leads.

The episodic setup enables seamless switching across different characters, settings, and story timelines—a formula that has proven successful in prior Resident Evil entries. Elaborating on the gameplay design, Nakanishi noted that Grace’s segments would deliver the classic survival horror experience long associated with the Resident Evil franchise, favoring slower-paced, atmospheric encounters.

Conversely, Leon’s chapters will lean heavily into action and combat, echoing the style of Resident Evil 4.

This dynamic split, Nakanishi remarked, offers distinctly different gameplay tensions, likening the shifts in pacing to alternating between a hot sauna and a cold plunge.

The team initially had concerns about whether this contrast might disorient players, but they now see it as a defining feature that brings a unique rhythm and variety to the experience. Producer Masato Kumazawa highlighted the impact of this design, stating that transitioning from chilling horror to fast-paced action amplifies both experiences.

After an intense scare, the ensuing action sets a new adrenaline high, while returning to horror makes the frightful moments even more effective.

Kumazawa described this as a unified gameplay experience only achievable by merging two contrasting styles. Resident Evil Requiem also features a notable automotive collaboration between Capcom and Porsche.

Kennedy will be seen behind the wheel of a custom-built Cayenne Turbo GT, tailor-made to fit the game’s narrative world.

Kumazawa mentioned that this one-of-a-kind vehicle was crafted specifically for Leon, underscoring the franchise's attention to immersive detail.

Fans got a first look at this and more in the new Game Awards trailer, where Leon is shown wielding both an axe and a chainsaw against the series’ signature infected adversaries. With its innovative dual-protagonist structure and high-profile collaborations, Resident Evil Requiem signals Capcom’s ongoing commitment to evolving its survival horror legacy.

The game launches worldwide on February 27, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
