Resident Evil Requiem: Producer Confirms Raccoon City Connections for Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Resident Evil Requiem is set to be one of the most anticipated titles coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 26, 2026.
Developed and published by Capcom, this latest installment in the legendary survival horror franchise promises a new chapter for fans, while drawing upon iconic elements from the series’ storied history.
With mounting excitement surrounding potential character returns, Capcom has offered clarity regarding what and who players can expect in this upcoming title. Fans of the Resident Evil series have been speculating for months about the involvement of major characters from previous games in Resident Evil Requiem.
Much of the anticipation is centered around Leon S.
Kennedy, inspired by his prominent role in recent remakes, particularly Resident Evil 4.
However, in a recent interview with Well-Played, Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa addressed these discussions head-on.
Kumazawa clarified that while the game will indeed feature figures tied to the Raccoon City incident, players should temper their expectations. "You will see some characters from previous games make appearances, but it is important not to expect too much or become overly excited," Kumazawa explained.
He continued, emphasizing Capcom’s intent to balance fan service with organic storytelling: "We cannot make any promises regarding specific characters, but I can confirm that characters who were involved in the Raccoon City incident will be part of the narrative." A notable new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, leads the story of Resident Evil Requiem.
She is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a playable character from the PlayStation 2 online spinoff, Resident Evil Outbreak.
When asked whether any characters from Outbreak would return, Kumazawa stated, "While there are references to the past, including Grace’s lineage, the only concrete connection between Outbreak and Requiem is the family tie.
There is no need to worry about understanding the plot if you missed Outbreak." Kumazawa also addressed interest in reviving the cooperative gameplay style that made Outbreak a cult favorite.
"Currently, we do not have plans to develop any new titles in the style of Outbreak.
However, if there is significant demand from players, we may consider it in the future," he remarked. Resident Evil Requiem stands poised to deliver a narrative rich in series history, with careful nods to long-term fans.
Its February 2026 launch across multiple platforms, including the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, underlines Capcom’s commitment to reaching a broad global audience.
Whether you're a seasoned Resident Evil veteran or a newcomer catching up with the Ashcroft legacy, Requiem is crafting a fresh yet familiar horror experience.
