Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have activated a Halloween-themed limited-time event in Pokémon Pokopia titled Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises.

Running from October 17 at 5:00 a.m. local time through November 1 at 4:59 a.m. local time, the event gives players the opportunity to befriend Pumpkaboo and, potentially, Gourgeist by participating in a series of in-game activities and an item exchange.

Organizers explained that Pumpkaboo — the Pumpkin Pokémon — will appear near the Pokémon Center, and players can befriend it by speaking with the character and completing its request.

The event introduces a new event-only currency, pumpkin candy, which players earn by surprising other Pokémon while camouflaged as furniture and other favored items.

Pumpkin candy can be traded at the Pokémon Center for event-themed furniture and decorations inspired by a midnight festival.

Event schedule

- October 17 (Sat), 5:00 a.m. – November 1 (Sun), 4:59 a.m. local time.

How the event works

1.

Talk to Pumpkaboo: Head to the area near the Pokémon Center and interact with Pumpkaboo.

Befriending begins once you fulfill Pumpkaboo’s request.

2.

Collect Pumpkin Candy: Camouflage your avatar as furniture or items that attract Pokémon, then surprise approaching Pokémon to receive pumpkin candy as a reward.

3.

Trade Pumpkin Candy: Visit the Pokémon Center to exchange pumpkin candy for a selection of event-only items, including themed furniture and decorations.

4.

Create a Habitat to Befriend Gourgeist: Use the exchanged items to construct a habitat tailored for Gourgeist.

When the habitat is complete and Gourgeist appears, you will have the opportunity to befriend it.

This event focuses on item collection and community-style decorating rather than competitive play, giving players a seasonal reason to revisit in-game spaces and exchange rewards.

The mechanics — talk to event NPC, collect event currency through specific actions, and redeem that currency for decorative items — follow established formats used in prior Pokémon-themed timed events.

Players should log in during the listed window to ensure they qualify for all exchanges and the chance to befriend both Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist.
