Level-5 has officially unveiled its anticipated lineup for the Tokyo Game Show 2025, headlined by Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.
Initially announced in 2023, the newest chapter in the Professor Layton series has stirred widespread anticipation due to a prolonged absence of gameplay footage or detailed updates.
This year's Tokyo Game Show marks the long-awaited debut of the first playable demo, signifying a major development milestone for the renowned puzzle-adventure franchise.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is slated for release on both the current Nintendo Switch and its next-generation successor, the so-called Switch 2.
Level-5’s decision to showcase a live demo at the premier games industry event suggests that development has made significant strides, with a projected release window remaining at 2025.
However, the studio has stopped short of confirming if the game will launch before year’s end, maintaining focus on delivering an experience worthy of the Layton legacy.
In addition to this highlight, Level-5 is bringing demos for two more of its high-profile releases.
Attendees will have an opportunity to play Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, the latest in the acclaimed soccer RPG series, and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which is already available on both Switch platforms.
Engagement incentives are on offer for hands-on attendees; a smartphone ring holder is available for those demoing Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, while fans trying Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road can receive a branded rubber wristband.
Additionally, Level-5 is distributing an exclusive “Metallica Clear File” featuring artwork from both major titles.
Level-5’s presence at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 underscores the studio’s commitment to revitalizing its signature franchises for the evolving Nintendo Switch platform ecosystem.
Since debuting the original Professor Layton series on Nintendo DS, the games have collectively achieved significant sales, cementing the professor’s adventures as a landmark in the puzzle-adventure genre.
The reappearance of the franchise, alongside new content for Inazuma Eleven and Fantasy Life, signals a strong push in Level-5's portfolio as the studio adapts to next-generation hardware.
With the first hands-on demo of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, Tokyo Game Show attendees and global fans alike can expect more information, insight, and excitement from Level-5 as the highly anticipated title draws closer to completion.
Stay tuned for further updates from the show floor, as well as additional announcements surrounding release dates, eShop availability, and potential Nintendo Direct showcases in the months ahead.
