LEVEL-5 has confirmed the release date for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, announcing the title during a Nintendo Direct presentation.
The studio said the new entry in the long-running puzzle-adventure series will arrive at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 10 December 2026.
The series has sold more than 18 million units worldwide, making this return a high-profile moment for the franchise.
Set a year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, the narrative unfolds in Steam Bison, a technologically advanced American city powered by sophisticated steam engines.
LEVEL-5 describes the setting as a place whose development has outpaced even London’s earlier achievements in the series.
The story follows Luke Triton after his relocation to the United States; Luke, now known locally as Detective Luke, still solves everyday mysteries and reaches out to Professor Layton when a mysterious incident occurs.
The developer framed that incident as unusually baffling, prompting Luke to write to Layton to ask for his assistance in uncovering the truth.
Voice casting for the game includes Mio Imada as Luke Triton and Yo Oizumi as Professor Layton.
