The Pokémon Company has officially outlined a substantial series of updates coming to Pokémon UNITE on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, set to take effect December 4, 2025.
In the latest Letter from the Producer, the developer unveiled a detailed roadmap for significant gameplay changes, headlined by the introduction of the License Points system, a reimagined ranking structure, sweeping map updates, and enhanced team play features. ### License Points System to Replace Aeos Coins A focal point of this update is the transition from the longstanding Aeos Coins to the new License Points system.
After December 4, 2025, players will no longer be able to obtain Pokémon Unite licenses with Aeos Coins.
Instead, previously earned Aeos Coins can be exchanged for License Points at a conversion rate of 10 Aeos Coins per 1 License Point.
The License Journey will require between 325 to 1,960 License Points per Unite license, depending on the specific Pokémon. To assist players in this transition, The Pokémon Company recommends acquiring desired licenses using Aeos Coins prior to the maintenance window opening at 3:00 UTC on December 4.
Beyond licenses, the Aeos Coin Exchange will later offer other in-game items—including fashion gear and Holowear—in exchange for remaining Aeos Coins. ### Overhauled Ranking System Launching December 4, 2025 Pokémon UNITE’s competitive landscape is also set for transformation.
The ranking system will shift to a new gauge-based progression model, allowing players to earn or lose rank points based on both battle outcomes and individual in-match performance.
Extra rank points can be obtained by achieving certain performance titles, for contributions such as tanking damage or disrupting goals.
This change aims to ensure all team roles are valued and rewarded. A new top competitive tier dubbed 'Legend rank' is also being introduced above the traditional Master rank, creating fresh incentives for elite Trainers seeking new challenges. ### Theia Sky Ruins Map and EXP Distribution Updates Following the September update which saw Groudon’s arrival, the Theia Sky Ruins map will undergo additional improvements.
Core adjustments will affect the map layout and tall grass areas to influence tactical gameplay.
Notably, Kyogre will now appear as the Legendary Pokémon at the 8-minute mark, granting the team that defeats it increased HP regeneration and easier goal scoring.
This strategic effect is designed to benefit All-Rounder and Defender roles, shaping late-game team fights dramatically. Another major gameplay refinement arrives on December 18, 2025, targeting how EXP Points are distributed.
The new system will enable players to share EXP evenly when taking down wild Pokémon together, regardless of items or who initiates the defeat.
As a result, the Exp.
Share item will no longer alter EXP distribution.
The change encourages allied play and strategy along key map paths. ### Enhanced Team Play and Communication Tools The Pokémon Company is rolling out new features to streamline team interactions, geared at both casual and ranked gameplay.
Players can now opt to replay matches with the same teammates using a new rematch button on the results screen.
Additionally, those ranked at Master or above can invite teammates to voice chat directly via the Pokémon selection interface. Further communication improvements include a new quick chat system for sharing preset praise messages, facilitating better team morale and feedback post-match. ### Looking Ahead These updates, arriving throughout December 2025, reinforce The Pokémon Company’s ongoing commitment to a dynamic, balanced, and engaging experience for Pokémon UNITE players on Nintendo Switch and mobile.
By overhauling key systems and emphasizing team strategy, the developer aims to enhance both competitive play and overall player satisfaction.
Official dates for specific map updates and feature enhancements will be provided by The Pokémon Company in forthcoming announcements.
