Pokemon Pokopia Sales Chart Debut: UK GfK Charts Reveal Undersupply Impact on Nintendo Switch 2

Pokemon Pokopia officially marked its retail launch in the United Kingdom for the week ending December 5, 2025, as the latest sales data from GfK highlights the game’s initial performance in the highly competitive boxed games market.

Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, the new RPG entry arrives on the Nintendo Switch 2, continuing the storied saga of Pokémon releases on Nintendo’s acclaimed handheld-console hybrid platform. Despite the massive anticipation that typically accompanies a Pokémon launch, GfK’s weekly charts place Pokemon Pokopia in the number 2 spot for the monitored week.

The game’s debut was surpassed by Resident Evil Requiem, which claimed the top spot following its earlier release.

Notably, Resident Evil Requiem performed strongly across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5 and PC, showcasing the diverse preferences of UK gamers. Industry insights provided by Chris Dring of The Game Business highlight a key factor affecting Pokemon Pokopia’s launch figures.

According to Dring, boxed sales for Pokopia during its debut week were less than half of the launch numbers recorded by its predecessor, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, on Nintendo Switch 2.

Dring attributed this shortfall not to a lack of demand, but to a significant undersupply of physical copies at retail.

He notes, “Pokemon Pokopia was heavily understocked at UK retail.

Its launch week physical sales did not even reach half the performance of Legends: Z-A at launch.” The surprisingly limited supply led to fast sellouts at numerous online stores and brick-and-mortar locations across the region.

Observers suggest that Nintendo may have underestimated the demand for boxed copies, resulting in the widespread shortages now reported.

The situation is particularly notable as physical Pokémon titles traditionally see strong, sustained sales in the UK and globally. The full GfK Top Ten for the week further reflects the dominance of both established franchises and recent releases.

Alongside Pokemon Pokopia, other Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 titles such as Mario Kart World, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons appear prominently within the rankings.

The diversity across the chart, which also includes several Resident Evil titles and Monster Hunter Wilds, underlines the breadth of player interest in new and legacy IPs on multiple platforms. Nintendo and Game Freak continue to deliver major retail events with each Pokémon release, but the Pokopia launch serves as a reminder of the complex logistics required to meet physical demand—especially as Switch 2 adoption accelerates and players show no signs of slowing their appetite for boxed releases.

As the situation develops, digital store fronts like the eShop may see increased activity from fans unable to secure physical copies at launch. Whether Nintendo will ramp up future waves of boxed shipments remains to be seen, but the Pokopia performance provides important data for both the publisher and retailers as they plan inventory for upcoming high-profile titles.

For now, Pokemon Pokopia enters the UK gaming market with strong interest tempered by supply constraints, reinforcing the ongoing relevance of boxed game sales even as digital growth accelerates.
