How to Find and Catch Xerneas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A: Location Guide for Nintendo Switch

With the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Game Freak has returned fans to the bustling Kalos region in a fresh narrative-driven adventure exclusive to Nintendo Switch.

Among the highlights of the game is the opportunity to capture iconic Legendary Pokémon, including Xerneas—one of Kalos’ most revered creatures.

Xerneas has a storied place in Pokémon lore, known for its life-giving powers and central role in the sixth generation. Players eager to add Xerneas to their roster should prepare for a post-game challenge.

Unlike some previous entries in the series, Pokemon Legends: Z-A requires players to finish the main storyline before attempting to capture this Legendary Pokémon.

Completing the main campaign typically takes around 20 hours of gameplay for those focusing solely on the story, with additional time required for completionists who pursue side quests. After the story credits roll, players encounter a pivotal moment: the character 'L' will appear, offering two new primary missions—"The One That Gives" and "The One That Takes." Additionally, its Geomancy ability is toned down in Pokemon Legends: Z-A compared to previous games, providing only a single stage of stat boost. Importantly, the game’s autosave feature prevents players from accidentally missing their chance to catch Xerneas.

If Xerneas faints during battle, it will simply respawn, giving trainers another opportunity to succeed.

However, Xerneas maintains its traditional low catch rate, so patience and preparation are essential. Currently, Xerneas is Shiny-locked in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, meaning it cannot be encountered in its alternate coloration during gameplay.

Fans looking to complete their collection with a Shiny Xerneas may have to wait for planned Pokemon Home integration, which will allow for transfers from other compatible titles.
