Pokémon Legends Z-A Update 1.0.2 Brings Critical Bug Fixes and Ranked Battle Adjustments

Game Freak’s latest installment in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Legends Z-A, received a significant update today with the release of Version 1.0.2 for Nintendo Switch.

Following the highly anticipated launch of Pokémon Legends Z-A in October 2025, this update focuses on resolving several gameplay issues and enhancing the competitive ranked battle experience. According to the official Japanese website, Version 1.0.2 delivers multiple bug fixes and addresses player concerns around side missions and battle functionality.

The update particularly targets scenarios where mission or battle progression could be halted by certain bugs, ensuring smoother gameplay for players immersed in the expansive world of Pokémon Legends Z-A. Among the most notable fixes: - A bug has been resolved where players would fail to capture Pokémon if they never accessed the box screen after running out of box space before the first Mega Evolution battle.

This issue also prevented players from obtaining Pokémon during certain side missions, even after completion. - Some side missions previously experienced a progression block if a move landed on its target at the exact moment of a day-to-night cycle, rendering future moves ineffective and halting mission progress.

This has now been fixed in Version 1.0.2. - In trainer battles, an issue occurred when both trainers attempted to activate Mega Evolution simultaneously during a Pokémon switch, leading to an impasse where the opposing trainer’s Pokémon would not be deployed and the battle could not proceed.

This conflict has been addressed in the latest patch. Additional minor in-game issues have also been corrected to further improve the overall player experience.

Importantly, the update brings meaningful changes to ranked battles, a core feature for competitive players.

The system for earning ranked points has been rebalanced to ensure that points do not decrease based on match outcomes—a tweak intended to motivate continued participation and foster a more positive competitive environment.

Reward structures have also been revisited, with certain battle rewards either newly introduced or increased per match, giving trainers more incentive to climb the ranks. Players are reminded that the latest update data is required for all online gameplay functionality, and that local multiplayer is only compatible when all participants are using the same version of the game.

As such, it is recommended that players synchronize their update versions for uninterrupted play. The Pokémon Company has also teased forthcoming news on the eagerly awaited "Mega Dimension" DLC, with additional details to be revealed later today.

Pokémon Legends Z-A continues to evolve post-launch, with Game Freak actively listening to community feedback and refining the gaming experience through regular updates. For all fans and competitive trainers alike, Pokémon Legends Z-A’s Version 1.0.2 sets a new standard for quality-of-life improvements in the series, reaffirming Game Freak’s commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience on the Nintendo Switch.
