Niantic Implements Major Changes to Pokémon GO Remote Raid Passes: Price Increase and Daily Limit Announced Niantic, the developer behind the global phenomenon Pokémon GO, has announced a significant overhaul of the game's Remote Raid Pass system.

Starting April 6, 2023, players will see a price increase for Remote Raid Passes, new restrictions on daily usage, and several other adjustments aimed at shifting focus back to in-person engagement within the game's dynamic community. Pokémon GO, which launched on mobile devices in 2016 and continues to thrive with millions of active trainers worldwide, saw the introduction of Remote Raid Passes in 2020.

The feature was designed to help players join raid battles—one of the game's core cooperative activities—regardless of their physical location.

However, as remote participation grew, Niantic realized this approach had shifted the gameplay experience in ways they did not anticipate. In a public statement, Niantic explained that Remote Raid Passes were "never intended" to become the predominant method for participating in raids.

The company pointed out that, "Since their release, Remote Raid Passes have taken a central role in Pokémon GO in a manner we hadn't expected.

Our goal is to reward trainers who join raids in person by offering extra Candy XL and introducing additional new features, encouraging trainers to play together with friends, family, and the broader community." Going forward, several key changes will be implemented: Remote Raid Pass Price Changes: - The price for a three-pack of Remote Raid Passes will increase to 525 PokéCoins (up from the previous rate). - A single Remote Raid Pass will now cost 195 PokéCoins. - Additionally, a Premium Battle Pass three-pack will be available in the shop for 250 PokéCoins. Daily Usage Limits: - Trainers will be limited to participating in a maximum of five Remote Raids per day.

For special in-game events, this limit may be temporarily increased. Reward Pool and Inventory Updates: - Remote Raid Passes will now be included as potential rewards in Research Breakthroughs. - Remote Raid Passes earned this way remain subject to the maximum inventory limit of three per trainer.

If at maximum capacity, trainers will receive a Premium Battle Pass as an alternative. Updated Incentives for In-Person Play: - Trainers attending five-star raids in person will receive increased Candy XL rewards, further incentivizing community participation. These updates are designed to reinforce the unique, real-world interaction at the heart of Pokémon GO's gameplay.

As Niantic stated, "Remote Raid Passes will remain a part of Pokémon GO, but we consider these adjustments essential for the long-term health of the game and the player experience.

We hope this brings trainers together, in person, as we continue to evolve and improve the world of Pokémon GO." These changes are set to roll out on April 6, 2023, across supported platforms.

Players can find the new Remote Raid Pass pricing and participation rules via the in-game shop and the official Pokémon GO website.

As Pokémon GO maintains its strong presence on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, Niantic shows continued commitment to innovative community experiences for trainers worldwide.
