Description

Studio Waterzooi has officially revealed that its upcoming title, Please, Watch The Artwork, is in active development for the Nintendo Switch platform.

This new project serves as a follow-up to the acclaimed interactive experience Please, Touch The Artwork, and fans can anticipate an expanded exploration of artistic immersion, this time focusing on the renowned American painter Edward Hopper.

Hopper, celebrated for his evocative portrayals of loneliness and urban isolation, is central to the unique narrative and gameplay structure that defines this innovative spin-off. In Please, Watch The Artwork, players step into the shoes of a nightwatch stationed at the Museum of Animated Modern Art (MaMA).

Their main assignment is to carefully observe and detect subtle changes within iconic Edward Hopper paintings displayed throughout the digital galleries.

As the story unfolds, players are challenged by an atmosphere laden with paranoia and isolation, punctuated by the melancholic presence of a solitary clown who drifts between artworks, spreading his sadness across the masterpieces.

According to the developer, maintaining a sharp eye, a keen memory, and perhaps a steady supply of coffee will be essential to prevent this melancholy from taking root in the paintings. Studio Waterzooi has provided a detailed overview of the game’s features to further elevate the play experience on the Nintendo Switch.

Please, Watch The Artwork offers accessible, casual spot-the-difference gameplay employing intuitive point-and-click controls.

These are complemented by a zoom function, enabling players to scrutinize every intricate detail of Hopper’s American realism.

The developer emphasizes that the title is free from traditional jumpscares or monsters, but instead evokes a powerful sense of paranoia and introspection—fitting well with the themes of Hopper’s body of work.

While clowns make a recurring thematic appearance, the focus remains on mood, not horror. The title features six thematically curated galleries, each highlighting over 40 of Hopper’s original paintings, all coming to life with hand-animated details, dynamic soundscapes, and visual effects.

With more than 400 distinct anomalies to spot, players can expect a robust challenge.

There are three difficulty levels for the competitive and casual alike, plus a relaxed "cosy mode" that removes time constraints, allowing for a pressure-free experience as changes are reported at one's own pace. Please, Watch The Artwork is confirmed for a digital release on the Nintendo eShop, available exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

While a specific release date remains unannounced, anticipation is high for fans of narrative-driven and visually rich indie titles.

Studio Waterzooi’s commitment to transforming the experience of art appreciation into interactive gameplay marks Please, Watch The Artwork as an anticipated addition to the Nintendo Switch eShop library.
