The game, which was first shown to the public last year, expands its reach to Nintendo’s next-generation portable console with performance and resolution improvements tailored to the Switch 2 hardware.
The Switch 2 Edition is confirmed for release on August 20, 2026.
This edition targets next-gen features of the Nintendo Switch 2, promising handheld performance at up to 120 FPS at 1080p, HDR support, and native 4K output when the system is docked.
Players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version will receive the Switch 2 Edition as a free upgrade.
Gameplay and structure
Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo is a narrative-driven, 2D top-down platforming adventure that follows Pippit, an up-and-coming yoyo master.
The story centers on a family business embroiled in criminal machinations, a soul-stealing mega-laser, and clashes with four crime bosses.
Combat and traversal both revolve around yoyo mechanics: learning tricks changes available movement options, opens secret areas, and provides multiple solutions to many challenges.
Key features (as listed by the game’s materials):
- Explore four distinct city districts containing over 1,000 screens of challenges and hidden content.
- Infiltrate the headquarters of four crime bosses, navigate complex interior layouts, confront enemies, and solve action-oriented puzzles.
- Learn and chain yoyo tricks to create custom parkour routes across the cityscape, altering how combat and exploration play out.
- Collect over 40 ability-enhancing Badges that modify playstyle.
- Unlock more than 20 passive upgrades via an in-game loan shark mechanic.
- Find over 80 additional collectibles, ranging from health boosts to valuable treasures.
