NIS America and Nihon Falcom have announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, with a planned worldwide release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop in 2026.

The title, part of Nihon Falcom's long-running Trails franchise, returns players to the city-state of Crossbell and follows protagonist Lloyd Bannings and the newly formed Special Support Section as they investigate corruption and hidden stories within the city.

Trails From Zero places players in the role of Lloyd Bannings, who returns to Crossbell after three years and joins the Crossbell Police Department.

Rather than being assigned to standard investigative duties, Lloyd is placed in the Special Support Section, a small division that handles odd jobs and minor requests.

He is joined by key teammates Elie MacDowell, the mayor's granddaughter; Randy Orlando, a former soldier with a flirtatious streak; and Tio Plato, a young technical prodigy.

Together the team explores Crossbell's streets, uncovering criminal activity beneath the city-state's prosperous surface.

In official publisher materials, NIS America outlined several technical and quality-of-life upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2 release.

The company said the port will deliver enhanced visuals and HD textures, offer a toggle between original and upscaled textures, and support higher performance on new hardware, including up to 120 frames per second and up to 4K resolution on capable displays.

Publisher notes also referenced a High-Speed Mode that lets players accelerate battles or move more quickly through the game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 build will include mouse support.

The announcement confirms Nihon Falcom's ongoing stewardship of the Trails series and NIS America's role in bringing the game to Western audiences on Nintendo's next-generation platform.

The planned 2026 release on Nintendo Switch 2 marks the first time Trails From Zero will be available on that hardware, with distribution set for both physical retail and the Nintendo eShop worldwide.
