Outbound Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2: Cozy Open-World Crafting Adventure Expands Launch Plans

Dutch studio Square Glade Games has officially announced that their highly anticipated cozy open-world simulation, Outbound, will launch on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

This news comes on the heels of Outbound’s impressive Kickstarter campaign, which raised €265,679 in early 2024, successfully meeting all stretch goals and garnering widespread support from the gaming community.

The game is set for a Q2 2026 release across PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms. Originally revealed for the current Nintendo Switch, Outbound's expanded launch plan ensures that fans of both the original and successor hardware will be able to enjoy the game.

Square Glade Games, a small but ambitious Dutch team, aims to capture the hearts of cozy game enthusiasts by blending elements of crafting, farming, vehicle customization, and open-world exploration—all wrapped in a visually inviting, Firewatch-inspired art style. Outbound invites players into a utopian near-future where the journey begins with a humble camper van.

From there, the gameplay delivers a flexible mix of solo and cooperative experiences—supporting up to four players online—where users can explore diverse biomes, gather materials, and transform their van into the ultimate customizable home on wheels.

Players can scavenge resources to craft tools, build modular furniture, design rooftop gardens, and experiment with a comprehensive character editor.

Thanks to community-backed Kickstarter goals, activities like fishing, beekeeping, and a range of cozy minigames now round out the core experience. In a recent press statement, Square Glade Games emphasized their commitment to delivering a dynamic sandbox where "players are free to build, explore, and adapt at their own pace, whether playing alone or cooperatively with friends." The game's environmental mechanics allow for energy management, encouraging players to power their electric camper van with sustainable sources like solar, wind, or hydro energy, and to innovate new technologies as they traverse ever-changing landscapes. Official screenshots and gameplay trailers suggest a broad spectrum of customization and an inviting world teeming with relaxing activities such as gardening, cooking, and petting a friendly dog companion.

The modular building system enables deep personalization, further enhancing the game's appeal to fans of titles in the cozy, life-sim genre. As of its last update, Outbound's developers are targeting an official release window of Q2 2026, with the original Kickstarter delivery estimate of January 2026 still posted.

With its mix of open-world adventure, cooperative gameplay, and relaxing creative systems, Outbound is well-positioned as a standout for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 users, as well as for fans of wholesome indie games across all supported platforms.
