Moon Studios, the studio behind the Ori series, has confirmed platform plans for its upcoming action-adventure No Rest for the Wicked following a new showcase at Sony’s State of Play.
The developer says the game will launch in October on PC, Steam Deck and PlayStation 5, while Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions will arrive later after additional optimization work.
At the State of Play event Moon Studios presented a fresh look at No Rest for the Wicked and followed up with a developer statement explaining the staggered rollout.
In clear terms, Moon Studios said it will not ship the Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2 ports day-and-date with the October launch because those platforms require more intensive technical work.
The studio emphasized that this schedule is not the result of an exclusivity deal and that the decision stems from engineering needs, not contractual limitations.
According to Moon Studios, the game’s architecture streams and simulates a highly active world in the background, which places a premium on memory and streaming budgets.
The team said that Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch 2 require “hardcore” optimization due to smaller memory budgets on those machines, and that every megabyte matters when streaming large amounts of data during play.
Moon Studios also framed the decision in terms of quality control: the studio does not want to ship a compromised or “shoddy” port.
They referenced their past work bringing both Ori titles to Nintendo Switch—stating that achieving 60fps on Switch took time and careful engineering—and said they intend to apply the same rigor to No Rest for the Wicked across all platforms.
The developer concluded that No Rest for the Wicked will be released on all current platforms, but that players should expect delayed releases on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 while Moon Studios completes platform-specific optimizations.
For consumers and retailers tracking launch windows on storefronts such as Steam and the eShop, the confirmed October launch applies to PC, Steam Deck and PS5; Moon Studios will provide timing for the remaining versions once they meet the studio’s quality targets.
No Rest for the Wicked remains a highly anticipated follow-up from Moon Studios, and the studio’s update reinforces a development-first approach to multi-platform releases.
