Clear River Games, known for publishing unique titles and special editions, has announced the cancellation of its previously announced gun peripheral for the Nintendo Switch collection, Operation Night Strikers.
This decision follows significant customer feedback focused on the accessory's pricing, marking a notable development for collectors and fans looking to enhance their arcade experience on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.
Earlier this month, Clear River Games opened pre-orders for the gun peripheral in three vibrant colors—green, blue, and pink—positioning the accessory as an authentic enhancement for Operation Night Strikers’ fast-paced, arcade-style gameplay.
The peripherals were listed at $54.99 each, available through both Clear River Games' online store and Limited Run Games, a well-known distributor of physical gaming collectibles.
The devices were specifically designed to work alongside Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers, providing an at-home arcade feel that aimed to bridge nostalgic gameplay with modern hardware.
On social media, Clear River Games released an official statement addressing the cancellation.
In clear terms, the company cited customer reactions to the accessories' pricing as the main reason for rescinding the product launch.
According to their statement, the rising manufacturing costs and ongoing tariffs have made it impossible to deliver the peripheral at a price point that would deliver both the quality and value expected by its user base.
"We have made the difficult decision to cancel the Operation Night Strikers gun peripheral in response to customer feedback on our pricing," the company announced.
The publisher further clarified that this choice was made independently and did not involve Taito Corporation, the original developer behind Operation Night Strikers.
Effective immediately, pre-existing orders for the gun peripheral are being cancelled, and Limited Run Games has removed all product pages pertaining to the accessory.
Both companies are now processing refunds for affected customers.
Despite this setback for hardware collectors, Operation Night Strikers remains on schedule in its core release.
The digital version of the game is currently available on both Nintendo Switch and Steam, offering players immediate access to its retro-inspired shooting action.
Additionally, the Operation Night Strikers – Assault Edition, the physical deluxe edition, is still set for release in January 2026, with no impact stemming from the peripheral’s cancellation.
The continued availability of Operation Night Strikers on the Nintendo eShop and Steam ensures that fans still have ways to enjoy the classic arcade experience, albeit without the specialized accessory.
This decision underscores Clear River Games' commitment to balancing customer expectations with product quality and value, while maintaining transparency in its communications—a critical standard in the modern video game industry.
Industry watchers and fans can stay tuned for further updates regarding Operation Night Strikers and any future hardware collaborations from Clear River Games via official channels.
