Capcom has released an updated demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword for Nintendo Switch 2, giving players early access to a second quest called the Oni Refuge ahead of the game's full launch on September 4.

The demo update extends a previously released trial that had been available on other formats, and it brings Switch 2 players an expanded look at the title’s combat, bosses and story beats.

According to Capcom, the new Oni Refuge stage is designed as a surreal early segment of the narrative that introduces additional gameplay mechanics while putting players against a towering boss named Daidara.

In promotional materials the publisher framed the encounter as a deliberate early test of the game’s systems and a way to showcase both new enemy types and the player’s growing power.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is positioned as a dark-fantasy action game rooted in an Edo-period Kyoto warped by malignant Malice and populated by Genma monstrosities.

Players follow a samurai protagonist identified as Miyamoto Musashi, who wields a mystical Oni Gauntlet that grants him supernatural abilities—among them the capacity to absorb Genma souls and convert them into power.

Capcom’s official overview highlights blood-soaked duels, powerful foes, and a capital of shrines and temples like Kiyomizu-dera twisted by the Malice.

Capcom has also released new trailers tied to the demo and the wider launch campaign.

Recent footage showcases boss battles, the debut of a duo enemy pair named Ifuu and Burai—who manipulate wind and thunder—and brief sequences of Musashi dueling the character Dokyo.

Another clip gives the first look at Musashi’s fully awakened Oni form during combat.

The updated demo arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 lets players sample these encounters ahead of the full release.

Capcom has additionally spoken about this version of the game and the development team’s approach to adapting Onimusha’s combat and presentation for the new hardware.

With the retail release scheduled for September 4, Switch 2 owners now have the opportunity to test core systems and confront early bosses via the newly expanded demo.
