Donkey Kong Bananza: New 3D Adventure Brings Donkey Kong and Pauline to Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo has officially announced Donkey Kong Bananza, a brand-new 3D platforming action-adventure launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, 2024.

Developed in-house by Nintendo, Donkey Kong Bananza brings the iconic character back to the forefront, uniting him with new partner Pauline in a co-op experience filled with energetic action, music, and challenges. An Exciting Return for Donkey Kong and Pauline Revealed during the recent Donkey Kong Bananza Direct presentation, the game invites players to explore Ingot Isle, where a once-in-a-lifetime discovery of golden bananas sets Donkey Kong off on a wild underground journey.

However, before he can enjoy his prized find, an unexpected storm plunges him deep beneath the surface, leading to a fateful meeting with Odd Rock, the mysterious persona of singer Pauline.

Together, they traverse the vast Underground World, smashing obstacles, solving puzzles, singing, and revealing the mysteries that lie below. Fresh Gameplay Mechanics and Transformations Donkey Kong Bananza introduces new gameplay systems and cooperative mechanics.

As Donkey Kong, players can perform powerful moves such as Dive Punch, Hand Slap, and Turf Surfing to break through walls and uncover secrets.

Partnering with Pauline, players gain access to transformative abilities powered by collecting gold in the form of Bananergy.

As the Bananergy meter fills, Pauline can trigger transformative states—such as Kong Bananza for super strength, Zebra Bananza for increased speed, and Ostrich Bananza for flight and aerial attacks.

Each transformation comes with unique skills to tackle different challenges within the Underground World. Cooperative Play and Multiplayer Features Donkey Kong Bananza is designed for both solo play and local co-op with a friend.

The Nintendo Switch 2’s updated Joy-Con 2 controllers support dual-character control and unique functionality, like utilizing mouse controls for Pauline's singing abilities.

With GameShare, players can share the game locally for co-op sessions, while GameChat enables voice and video chat with friends online, enhancing the multiplayer experience. Collectibles, Customization, and Familiar Faces Throughout the adventure, players will collect Banandium Gems, Chips, and Gold, which unlock new abilities, upgrade skills, and provide in-game items.

Unique items such as Fossils allow players to unlock new fashions and fur color options for both Donkey Kong and Pauline—a first for the series.

The world is populated with new and returning characters, including Cranky Kong, Rambi, Grumpy Kong, and other inhabitants, many of whom are caught in conflict with the villainous Void Company (VoidCo). Additional Features and amiibo Support Donkey Kong Bananza offers a wealth of additional features, from creative game modes like Photo Mode and DK Artist—where players can sculpt in-game art—to accessibility options and fast-travel with Eelevators, eel-shaped transportation systems.

The title also supports amiibo, with new Donkey Kong and Pauline figures launching alongside the game.

Scanning these amiibo can unlock exclusive content such as Pauline’s Diva Dress and powerful KONG tiles to assist in gameplay. Release Information and Parental Controls Donkey Kong Bananza will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 starting July 17, 2024.

The game will support both digital purchase via the eShop and compatible amiibo functionality.
