Square Enix has officially launched digital pre-orders for Octopath Traveler 0, the latest entry in its celebrated JRPG series, on the Nintendo eShop with support for both Nintendo Switch (Switch 1) and the new Nintendo Switch 2.
Octopath Traveler 0 is a highly anticipated title that revisits the franchise’s evocative HD-2D world, presenting an all-new story with enhanced gameplay systems and several notable features for fans and newcomers alike.
Returning to the roots of the Octopath Traveler universe, the game introduces a fresh narrative set in a past era, offering players the unique ability to fully customize their protagonist and command an expanded party.
New gameplay elements such as in-depth town-building mechanics and dramatic, turn-based combat solidify the distinctiveness that fans have come to expect from the series.
Digital pre-orders for Octopath Traveler 0 are now available in both standard and deluxe editions across both console generations.
The standard version is priced at £49.99/$49.99, while the deluxe edition retails for £54.99/$59.99.
The Digital Deluxe Edition offers a comprehensive package including the base game, exclusive 'Deluxe Travel Provisions' (with advanced Action Skills and valuable consumable items), themed town decorations, and a digital art book.
Among the Deluxe Travel Provisions, players will find specialized skills such as Triple Strike Mastery and SP Saver Mastery, along with eight types of in-game 'Nuts' for character development, and festive decoration items that enhance the town-building aspect.
A key point confirmed on the game’s official eShop page is that save data is transferable between Switch 1 and Switch 2, ensuring continuity for players looking to upgrade their hardware.
However, Square Enix clarified that there is no upgrade path between the two versions, so users must select their preferred platform carefully prior to purchase.
Performance-wise, the two versions will provide different visual and gameplay experiences.
On Nintendo Switch (Switch 1), Octopath Traveler 0 runs at 720p resolution and up to 30 frames per second.
In contrast, the Nintendo Switch 2 version delivers enhanced fidelity with 1080p resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second.
Official screenshots on the eShop highlight the graphical upgrades on the newer platform while maintaining the series’ signature style across both devices.
Octopath Traveler 0 stands as a testament to Square Enix’s commitment to evolving its beloved franchise.
With its simultaneous launch on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and a substantial suite of digital bonuses, fans have compelling reasons to revisit the world of Orsterra and experience the series' next chapter.
Octopath Traveler 0 is scheduled to release later this year, continuing Square Enix’s legacy of high-quality, narrative-driven RPG experiences for Nintendo hardware.
