Hello Games has officially announced the release of No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, launching in tandem with the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console on June 5, 2025.
As one of the most ambitious updates yet for the space exploration phenomenon, this new version leverages the advanced hardware capabilities of Nintendo’s next-generation portable system, delivering a significantly enhanced gaming experience for both new and returning players.
Players who already own No Man’s Sky on Nintendo Switch will receive a complimentary No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack via the Nintendo eShop.
This free upgrade ensures current fans can seamlessly transition to the upgraded edition without any additional cost, reaffirming Hello Games’ commitment to supporting its dedicated community.
With the No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, users will experience vastly improved visuals and performance.
In Handheld Mode, the game delivers stunning visuals, running at 1080p resolution with a smooth 40 frames per second, while integrating support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), and Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS).
In TV Mode, players will enjoy 1440p resolution at 30 frames per second, along with DLSS and DRS, underscoring the power unlocked by Nintendo’s new hardware.
Hello Games founder Sean Murray confirmed these enhancements, noting that the studio has worked diligently for a year to optimize No Man’s Sky for the Switch 2.
He explained, “With the original Nintendo Switch, we were pushing technical boundaries.
On Nintendo Switch 2, we’ve seen a major leap in performance, enabling us to introduce full multiplayer support and robust cross-progression features right from launch.
We’ve dramatically increased the level of detail, rendering capabilities, and resolution, resulting in a far richer game world.”
The release also coincides with No Man’s Sky’s latest Beacon update, debuting new dense robot settlements that can be upgraded, with each inhabitant featuring individual backstories—a feature made possible by the increased power of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The update brings a slew of new content and improvements, all available from day one on the new platform.
Speaking about the technical progress, Murray highlighted improvements made since the title’s debut on the original Switch, including expanded support for touch controls, gyro controls, cross-save functionality, and an overall sharper and higher-resolution experience.
“With nine years of updates behind us, Switch 2 Edition builds on this foundation as another free upgrade for our players.
We can’t wait for players to experience it firsthand,” Murray concluded.
No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be available worldwide as a digital release through the Nintendo eShop starting June 5, 2025, cementing Hello Games’ ongoing dedication to innovation and player support on Nintendo platforms.
