Description

Nintendo has issued an official advisory for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 users, cautioning them about operating these devices in extreme temperature conditions.

The announcement comes on the heels of Japan recording its hottest day to date, with temperatures soaring to 41.2°C (just over 106°F), underscoring the potential risks of gaming hardware in severe environmental extremes. In recent guidance published by Nintendo, the company emphasized that using either the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in hot or cold environments may cause hardware malfunctions.

The statement specified that optimal operation is guaranteed only within an ambient temperature range of 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F).

Prolonged operation outside these parameters can increase the likelihood of overheating or suboptimal system performance.

"Please use the console in an environment between 5°C and 35°C.

We have seen several days recently where temperatures have exceeded 35°C.

Please be careful when using the console outdoors," Nintendo shared in its announcement, urging caution especially during heat waves and cold spells. The record-breaking temperatures in Japan this week, coupled with forecasts of colder-than-normal winters for numerous regions, prompted Nintendo to reiterate these operational limits.

The guidance aims to help users avoid damaging their consoles while maintaining peak performance.

Nintendo's advice is especially relevant for portable hardware like the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, devices designed for both home and on-the-go play.

Outdoor gaming, popular during travel or community events, increases the risk of exposing consoles to harmful extremes.

As a result, Nintendo encourages gamers to check their local weather and ensure their gaming sessions stay within the recommended temperature windows. With the Nintendo Switch continuing its global success—reaching over 125 million units sold since its launch in 2017—the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to build on this legacy.

As anticipation grows for the new hardware, Nintendo's timely reminders about device care highlight the company's commitment to user safety and product longevity.

Players can stay updated on further Nintendo Switch 2 developments via official channels, including Nintendo Direct presentations and the eShop news sections. As the gaming industry evolves, environmental and hardware considerations remain central to delivering seamless experiences.

Nintendo’s proactive communication ensures that players are equipped to protect their systems, ensuring many more seasons of uninterrupted gameplay.
