Nintendo Doubles Down on Nintendo Switch 2 Production Amid Surging Global Demand Nintendo is ramping up production of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 following extraordinary pre-order demand across global markets, company president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed.

The next generation of Nintendo’s acclaimed hybrid console has already seen unprecedented interest, underscoring the brand’s enduring appeal and hardware innovation. On April 4, 2025, Nintendo launched a pre-order lottery for the Nintendo Switch 2 via its My Nintendo Store in Japan.

The response was staggering: over 2.2 million hopeful customers applied for a chance to purchase the portable home console’s successor.

This overwhelming demand far exceeded Nintendo’s initial projections and quickly outpaced available stock, leaving many consumers awaiting further inventory releases. At the announcement of Nintendo’s financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2025, President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the surging demand.

He explained that the first phase of Switch 2 pre-orders in Japan brought a response well beyond expectations, with applications flooding in during the initial lottery round.

Furukawa noted that pre-orders have since expanded to other regions, including Europe and North America, both through the My Nintendo Store and authorized retail partners. "With the volume of pre-order applications greatly surpassing what we anticipated, we have initiated efforts to bolster production capacity to ensure we can fulfill consumer demand globally," Furukawa stated during the investor briefing. Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for worldwide retail release on June 5, 2025.

The console will be priced at £395.99 in the United Kingdom, €469.99 across Europe, and $449.99 in the United States.

With the Nintendo eShop and other digital services poised to support the next generation hardware, the company aims to maintain its leadership position in the gaming sector. Since its debut in 2017, the Nintendo Switch family has resonated with millions globally, redefining hybrid gaming and surpassing over 130 million units sold as of early 2024.

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues this legacy, promising enhanced performance and new features to engage both longtime Nintendo fans and newcomers.

As pre-order momentum builds, Nintendo’s proactive move to strengthen Switch 2 production reflects a commitment to meeting the expectations of a devoted global audience. The upcoming months will be critical as Nintendo works closely with manufacturing partners to alleviate supply constraints and deliver the Switch 2 experience to as many gamers as possible on launch day.
