Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 153 Million: Latest Milestones and Best-Selling Games Revealed

Nintendo has officially announced that global lifetime sales of the Nintendo Switch have soared past 153.10 million units, underlining the hybrid console's enduring appeal since its debut in March 2017.

This sales milestone further cements the Nintendo Switch’s legacy as one of the best-selling video game hardware platforms of all time, following a robust performance over eight years. For the quarter ending June 30, 2025, Nintendo recorded hardware sales of 0.98 million Switch consoles.

This figure represents a 53.5 percent decline compared to the same period in the previous year, illustrating the natural lifecycle progression for the platform as it approaches a decade on the market.

Software sales for the same quarter also saw a decrease, with 24.40 million units sold—a 20.4 percent year-on-year decline—as reported by the company in its latest financial results. Despite declining hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch continues to achieve remarkable milestones in software performance.

The company’s most popular titles remain dominant forces in game sales charts.

Leading the pack is 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,' which has achieved cumulative sales of 68.86 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling game on the platform.

Following closely is 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' at 48.19 million units sold, reflecting the game’s immense popularity, particularly during the global pandemic. Other top performers include 'Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate' with 36.55 million units, and 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,' which has reached 33.04 million in sales.

'Super Mario Odyssey' maintains strong momentum with 29.50 million copies sold.

The Pokémon franchise also enjoys substantial success: 'Pokémon Scarlet' and 'Pokémon Violet' have combined for 27.15 million units, while 'Pokémon Sword' and 'Pokémon Shield' total 26.84 million copies. Rounding out the list of ten best-selling Switch games are major releases such as 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' at 21.93 million, 'Super Mario Party' with 21.19 million, and 'New Super Mario Bros.
