Description

Nintendo of America has officially revealed that pricing for the original Nintendo Switch consoles, games, and select accessories will be raised in the United States.

This decision, attributed only to “market conditions,” will take effect starting August 3, 2025, according to the company’s latest update on its regional My Nintendo Store website. Launched in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch has become one of the most popular gaming consoles worldwide, with over 139 million units sold as of March 2024.

Throughout its lifespan, the platform has seen several hardware iterations—including the Nintendo Switch OLED Model and the more compact Nintendo Switch Lite—supported by a robust library of exclusives and multiplatform titles available both physically and digitally via the Nintendo eShop. In its public announcement, Nintendo of America stated, "Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025." The price adjustments cover the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and several Nintendo Switch accessories.

In addition, the company confirmed that other select products—including some Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, certain amiibo figures, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo—will also see modifications to their retail pricing. However, not all Nintendo products will be affected by this wave of changes.

According to the update, "Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time.

However, future adjustments to these prices may be considered as necessary." The move comes as global economic conditions continue to impact the gaming industry, resulting in fluctuating costs for manufacturing, shipping, and retail distribution.

While Nintendo did not provide specific reasons for the decision beyond referring to prevailing market conditions, it aligns with similar actions observed across various sectors within the technology and entertainment industries. For gamers and collectors, the updated prices will be officially listed on the My Nintendo Store’s U.S.

portal once the changes go live on August 3, 2025.

Existing prices remain in effect until that date, representing a final window for consumers to purchase Nintendo Switch hardware, games, and select accessories at current rates. With the ongoing popularity of the Nintendo Switch platform—bolstered by strong first-party releases and consistent online support—consumers are encouraged to monitor the upcoming adjustments to anticipate any impact on future purchases.
