Nintendo Switch eShop Updates: Credit Card Storage and Enhanced Browsing Features

Nintendo has consistently refined the Nintendo eShop experience on the Nintendo Switch, responding to user feedback and introducing features aimed at increasing convenience for its growing base of digital consumers.

Since the console’s 2017 launch, the eShop has gradually received updates that benefit both casual players and dedicated fans.

Recent enhancements focus not only on discoverability—for example, the popular Charts feature highlighting the most-downloaded software every two weeks—but also on streamlining the payment process. In the latest update, Nintendo has unveiled the ability for Nintendo Account members, aged 18 and over, to securely store credit card information within their accounts.

This addition directly addresses a recurring user request for smoother transactions when adding funds or purchasing content from the Nintendo eShop on the Switch.

Notably, each Nintendo Account can save one credit card, but the same card can be associated with multiple accounts, providing greater flexibility for households or multi-user devices.

For additional security, users may opt to require password entry every time the saved credit card is used for a purchase. Nintendo has clarified that credit card details saved to a Nintendo Account do not transfer to a linked Nintendo Network ID, maintaining separation between legacy credentials and new account systems.

In addition, the stored card can be utilized for off-device transactions, such as when purchasing digital games through Nintendo’s official website. As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the eShop browsing experience, Nintendo has also introduced an upgraded 'View More' option within the 'Recent Releases' section.

This feature allows users to load and explore titles released earlier in the Nintendo Switch’s lifespan, making it easier to revisit or discover past games that might not appear in current highlight reels.

These updates underscore Nintendo’s efforts to modernize its digital storefront while ensuring an intuitive, secure, and user-friendly experience for Switch owners.

As the eShop continues to evolve alongside the Switch platform’s impressive software portfolio, features like credit card storage and improved browsing tools will be essential in supporting both loyal fans and newcomers in the expanding world of Nintendo digital content.
