Nintendo has officially unveiled a new battery deterioration prevention feature for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, marking yet another significant hardware advancement for the popular gaming platform.
This announcement was made via the Nintendo Today app, providing fans and industry watchers with a first look at how the company plans to extend the overall battery lifespan of its next-generation handheld and hybrid console.
As detailed in the Nintendo Today app posting, the battery preservation feature can be found within the Switch 2 system's "System" settings tab.
When activated, the console will typically stop charging at roughly 90 percent of its total capacity.
According to Nintendo’s official explanation, this approach may slightly decrease the amount of time players can use the console while unplugged, yet it significantly helps to reduce battery capacity loss that can occur over repeated charging cycles.
Nintendo further clarifies that although the device will usually cease charging at 90 percent, it may occasionally reach a full 100 percent charge.
This measure is intended to ensure that the system’s battery-level indicator remains accurate for users.
By implementing this optional battery management setting, Nintendo is responding to long-term user concerns about lithium-ion battery wear, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to hardware longevity and user satisfaction.
In addition to the battery health feature, the Nintendo Today app also revealed a new system security measure for Switch 2 owners.
Users can now set a PIN code via the "System" settings tab, adding an additional layer of security to the console.
With the PIN code enabled, individuals will be required to enter the code each time the device is awoken from sleep mode—catering both to personal privacy and parental control needs on the platform.
The addition of these features further positions the Nintendo Switch 2 as a thoughtfully engineered successor to the best-selling Nintendo Switch, which debuted in March 2017.
The original model’s battery life and security features were notable, but the new hardware’s enhancements highlight Nintendo’s attentiveness to user feedback and modern gaming demands.
As anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to mount, these verified features underscore Nintendo’s commitment to responsible hardware design and user-friendly system controls.
Fans can stay informed about the latest updates, features, and official announcements regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 through trusted sources and the Nintendo Today app.
