Description

As anticipation builds for the next evolution of Nintendo’s flagship console, the Nintendo Switch 2, U.S.

retailers have begun receiving initial shipments ahead of its worldwide launch.

The highly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to hit shelves globally on June 5, 2025, bringing upgraded hardware and new experiences to fans.

Nintendo, known for its innovation and consistently groundbreaking hardware, is following up the tremendous success of the original Nintendo Switch, which sold over 125 million units globally as of March 2024. Reports from retail channels indicate that stock allocation has commenced in the United States.

A post by a Reddit user from New Jersey stated that their local Target store, despite being on the smaller side, received 40 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles—equally divided between standalone units and special Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundles.

According to the user, these shipments arrived directly from Target’s warehouse and are being held for sale on launch day, not for pre-order fulfillment. Amplifying the conversation, YouTuber Jake Randall, known for games retail coverage, shared an image via his X (formerly Twitter) account that allegedly shows the Nintendo Switch 2 stock secured in a locked cage on the floor of a Target location.

Randall remarked on the photo, highlighting Target’s approach to keeping inventory accessible yet secure until the official release date. The Nintendo Switch 2 launches with a retail price of $449.99 in the United States, £395.99 in the UK, and €469.99 across Europe.

In addition to standalone units, launch bundles featuring Mario Kart World—a highly anticipated racing title exclusive to the new system—will be available for fans looking to dive straight into new experiences.

Customers can expect availability through major retailers as well as via Nintendo’s eShop platform. Nintendo’s logistical rollout ahead of the Switch 2’s debut underscores its commitment to a seamless, synchronized global launch.

The company’s retail partners are playing a key role in ensuring that stock levels meet early demand, and mechanisms are in place to ensure fair in-store purchasing experiences. With less than two weeks to go before the new Nintendo Switch 2 hits store shelves, excitement continues to mount among Nintendo enthusiasts and the gaming industry at large.
