Nintendo has officially announced the establishment of 'Nintendo of Taiwan', a new subsidiary headquartered in Taipei and set to take over regional operations starting April 1, 2025.
This move marks a significant expansion for Nintendo in the vibrant Taiwanese gaming market, reaffirming the company's commitment to strengthening its business infrastructure and customer service in the region.
The subsidiary was formally registered on February 10, 2025, as revealed in an official statement published on the Nintendo Hong Kong website.
According to Nintendo, the creation of the Taiwan subsidiary is intended "to further solidify our business foundation within the Taiwan market and elevate the quality of our customer service." The company emphasized that the new branch would advance business development in line with the Nintendo Group’s guiding principles, ensuring a consistent brand experience for fans and customers.
Nintendo's presence in Taiwan experienced a major transition in 2014 when the previous local branch, 'Nintendo Phuten', ceased operations.
Management of Nintendo products and services in Taiwan was subsequently handled by Nintendo Hong Kong.
In recent years, the Taiwan market has demonstrated significant growth, particularly with strong engagement around the Nintendo Switch.
Last year, at the Taipei Game Show, Nintendo showcased its commitment with an expansive Switch booth that drew sizable crowds.
Additionally, local fans have enjoyed exclusive merchandise through special Nintendo pop-up stores in Taipei, highlighting the brand's popularity and consumer demand.
The strategic decision to reestablish a direct Nintendo subsidiary in Taiwan comes as the region’s gaming industry continues to expand.
By restoring a dedicated presence, Nintendo aims to provide enhanced support, fresh initiatives, and a more tailored eShop experience to its Taiwanese user base.
With operations set to commence at the start of the new fiscal year in April 2025, Nintendo of Taiwan is poised to play a pivotal role in the company's broader Asia-Pacific strategy.
This move is consistent with Nintendo's overarching philosophy of maintaining close connections with gamers worldwide and adapting to local market trends.
As Nintendo Switch continues to perform strongly globally and across Asia, the inauguration of Nintendo of Taiwan marks a new chapter for the company’s regional ambitions.
