Nintendo Updates Switch 2 VRR Support Description on US, Canada, and Japan Websites
In a recent development, Nintendo has updated the official online descriptions for variable refresh rate (VRR) support on the Nintendo Switch 2 in several regions, including the United States, Canada, and Japan.
The adjustment comes just weeks after the much-anticipated full reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the next-generation console slated to deliver significant technology upgrades for fans worldwide.
As initially highlighted by Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie through social media channels, references to 'VRR support for TV play' have been removed from certain sections of Nintendo’s regional websites.
Notably, some pages in these regions continue to reference VRR, and Nintendo’s official technical specifications page still lists “VRR up to 120 Hz” for the console’s built-in display.
However, in Europe, the Nintendo Switch 2 website retains original information, stating, “The system also supports HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 fps on compatible TVs.”
Nintendo’s explanation of VRR, previously available on its website, emphasized the technology’s benefits: Variable refresh rate technology is designed to deliver seamless motion and prevent frame skipping and flickering, resulting in smoother, more vivid gameplay experiences.
The company stated, "Bring games to life with a larger 1080p screen—or connect to a TV and play in up to 4K resolution*.
Support for HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 fps let you enjoy vivid color, clarity, and smooth gameplay.
Variable refresh rate (VRR) technology helps games move seamlessly by preventing frame skips and flickering."
Further indicating VRR’s integration into the Switch 2 ecosystem, Hamster Corporation cited the addition of VRR support for its upcoming release, Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer.
In its official announcement, the company noted, “VRR support has been added, enabling more accurate reproduction of the original arcade game’s experience.”
Despite these ongoing mentions of VRR in various announcements and pages, the removal of VRR details from some official Nintendo site sections has prompted questions within the gaming community about the feature’s final implementation on the Switch 2.
At this time, Nintendo has not issued a formal statement regarding the update.
Media outlets have reached out to Nintendo for clarification on the matter.
The Nintendo Switch 2, expected to launch with an array of modern features including enhanced processing power, a larger 1080p display, HDR support, and potential 4K output when connected to compatible TVs, is positioned as a significant leap forward for the company’s flagship platform.
As more information emerges in the lead-up to the console’s release, players and industry observers remain attentive to official updates surrounding new hardware capabilities like VRR support.
