In its latest financial results and accompanying statements reported by Reuters, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa reiterated that the company is not considering another price hike for the Switch 2 and emphasized the firm has secured sufficient memory supply to produce new units into the foreseeable future.
The financial update showed operating profit down 16% for the fiscal year, but Nintendo noted that Switch 2 continues to show strong platform momentum.
Nintendo has updated Switch 2 lifetime hardware sales to 26.35 million units.
The company also said that, in almost every quarter since the mid-2025 launch, the Switch 2 has outperformed the original Switch by roughly one million units in the same comparative quarter — with the exception of its fourth quarter, when that gap narrowed.
For context, the original Nintendo Switch debuted in 2017.
Although the Switch 2 is no longer the fastest-selling console in the U.S. overall, Nintendo stressed that its early sales trajectory still outpaces the original Switch when comparing equivalent launch windows.
That nuance is important as investors press the company over perceived short-term gaps in marquee third-party releases.
First-party software remains a bright spot.
Mario Kart World has sold a standout 16.48 million units, leading Nintendo’s Switch 2 software rankings.
Donkey Kong Bananza follows with 5.05 million units sold.
Tied for third are Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Pokémon Pokopia, each at 4.04 million units.
Splatoon Raiders has reached 2.42 million units, a notable performance for a spinoff without a primary multiplayer focus.
Nintendo also recently rereleased The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and indicated it has significant plans on the slate for 2027.
Taken together, Nintendo’s report frames the Switch 2 as a commercially healthy platform with robust first-party software sales, steady hardware supply and measured messaging to investors: no immediate price increases, and a continued focus on software and production capacity as the company looks ahead to 2027.
