Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Launch Delayed in Canada, June 5 Release Date Remains Set
Nintendo of Canada has officially postponed pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, just one day before Canadian customers expected online reservations to open.
This decision follows ongoing uncertainties in the US market, particularly regarding recent tariff regulations impacting gaming hardware imports.
In a statement provided to Mobile Syrup, Nintendo of Canada clarified that local pre-orders will not begin as previously scheduled on April 9, 2025.
The company said it is "realigning the timing of pre-orders in Canada to match those in the United States." The North American pre-order timeline emerged as an issue last week when Nintendo of America similarly delayed Switch 2 reservations due to the potential effects of increased US tariffs on products originating from countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia.
Despite the postponement of pre-orders, Nintendo has reaffirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 console is still set to launch globally—including in Canada—on June 5, 2025.
The official statement reads: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.
Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date.
The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."
This move comes in response to ongoing uncertainty surrounding tariff implications for consumer electronics that could impact production costs and retail pricing.
The US government’s recent tariff hikes, enacted during the Trump Administration, specifically target imports from Southeast Asian countries, many of which are instrumental in manufacturing and assembling gaming hardware like the Nintendo Switch series.
When asked about the price impact of potential tariffs, Nintendo of America’s president acknowledged in a press briefing that while tariffs haven’t factored into the current pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2, these fiscal policies would need to be "addressed" as the company moves forward.
No further information on updated pre-order dates has been provided, but Nintendo promises additional guidance in the coming weeks.
For North American fans eager to reserve their spot for the latest Nintendo hardware, patience will be necessary until a new pre-order schedule is announced.
Meanwhile, the June 5, 2025, release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 remains locked in, ensuring Canada and the rest of the world can gear up for launch day.
