Splatoon Raiders, the first official spinoff in Nintendo’s Splatoon series, launched this summer for the Nintendo Switch and has attracted significant attention for reworking the franchise’s co-op Salmon Run mechanics into a standalone campaign.

In a recent interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, members of the development team discussed the project’s design goals, inspirations for the art direction, and the studio’s post-launch plans.

Producer Seita Inoue told Famitsu that Raiders was conceived and released as a complete package rather than as a platform for ongoing balance updates or paid expansions.

Paraphrasing Inoue’s comments: the development team set out to deliver a self-contained, satisfying experience at launch and therefore does not plan to offer downloadable content or updates that would alter core gameplay balance.

He added that standard maintenance — such as patches to address critical bugs — will still be issued if necessary.

That position marks a clear contrast with how some mainline Splatoon releases were supported after launch.

For example, Splatoon 2 received the paid Octo Expansion, a campaign-focused DLC that expanded single-player content.

Nintendo’s approach to post-launch support has varied across titles and generations on the Nintendo Switch, with some entries receiving extensive seasonal content and others shipping as finished products.

From a development perspective, framing Raiders as a finished product is notable: it reflects a design choice to prioritize a closed, curated experience over iterative changes or an evolving live-service model.

Famitsu’s coverage of the team’s development process also touched on how Salmon Run mechanics were adapted into a campaign structure and on the art and aesthetic inspirations that shaped the title.

For players and retailers, the announcement clarifies expectations about future updates and content for Splatoon Raiders on the Nintendo Switch and related storefronts such as the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo and the Raiders team will continue to support the game for stability issues, but no balance updates or DLC packages are planned, per Inoue’s statement to Famitsu.

As always, official release notes and Nintendo communications remain the primary source for any future changes.

This confirmation from the producer provides a firm baseline for how Splatoon Raiders will be supported post-launch.
