Nintendo has released its highly anticipated financial results for the full fiscal year ending March 2025, delivering a comprehensive look at the performance of the Nintendo Switch platform and unveiling significant details about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware launch.
The data, published in May 2025, offers both concrete sales milestones and a preview of Nintendo’s near-future strategy as the company transitions into its next hardware generation.
### Record-Breaking Sales Performance and Fiscal Highlights
According to Nintendo, the company achieved an operating profit of 282.5 billion yen and an ordinary profit of 372.3 billion yen for the fiscal year.
Total revenue reached 1,164.9 billion yen, with overseas sales accounting for 76.4% of total revenue, or 890.0 billion yen.
Profit attributable to owners of parent was reported at 278.8 billion yen.
Interest income contributed an additional 56.1 billion yen to ordinary profit.
### Nintendo Switch Hardware and Software: Sales Figures
Total Nintendo Switch hardware sales have now surpassed 150.86 million units globally, with software unit sales reaching a staggering 1,359.80 million.
Hardware sold this fiscal year amounted to 15.70 million units, including 3.86 million standard Switch systems, 9.32 million Switch OLED consoles, and 2.52 million Switch Lite units.
However, hardware and software sales decreased compared to the previous fiscal period, with console sales dipping 31.2% year-over-year to 10.80 million units and total software falling by 22.2% to 155.41 million units.
This is attributed in part to last year’s exceptional performance, which saw the release of blockbuster titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo Switch software continued to perform strongly.
Super Mario Party Jamboree sold 7.48 million units since its launch, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom reached 4.09 million units, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door achieved 2.10 million units in sales.
Notably, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe added another 6.23 million copies this year, bringing its cumulative total to 68.20 million units.
In total, there were 24 million-selling titles in the catalog, including those from third-party publishers.
### Digital, Mobile, and IP-Related Sales
Digital sales for Nintendo's dedicated gaming platforms totaled 326.0 billion yen, representing a decrease of 26.5% year-over-year.
This was largely due to shrinking demand for downloadable versions of boxed Nintendo Switch games.
Mobile and IP-related business brought in 67.6 billion yen in revenue, a 27.0% year-over-year decline, which Nintendo attributed to reduced income from The Super Mario Bros.

### Nintendo Switch 2 Launch and Software Lineup
Looking ahead, Nintendo confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 will launch globally on June 5, 2025.
The new console features a larger, more responsive display, upgraded magnetic Joy-Con controllers, and significant improvements in processing speed and graphics performance, signaling a new era of gameplay possibilities.
At launch, Nintendo Switch 2 will debut with major first-party titles including Mario Kart World and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
Enhanced editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are also scheduled, all optimized for the new hardware.
The company has set ambitious forecasts, with expectations to ship 15 million Nintendo Switch 2 hardware units and 45 million software units by the end of the next fiscal year.
Nintendo also projects continued momentum for the Switch platform, with forecasts of 4.50 million hardware and 105.00 million software units sold.
Noteworthy future releases for the original Switch include Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, both set for launch in 2025, alongside numerous titles from third-party developers.
### Financial Outlook and Strategy
Nintendo’s financial outlook for the upcoming fiscal year anticipates sales of 1,900.0 billion yen, operating profit of 320.0 billion yen, and ordinary profit of 380.0 billion yen.
The company has provided assumed exchange rates of 140 yen per U.S.
dollar and 155 yen per euro, maintaining U.S.
tariff rates as of April 10, 2025.
Nintendo stated it will continue monitoring market conditions and adjust as necessary in response to global economic changes.
