Nintendo has released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, providing key insights into the performance of its recently launched Nintendo Switch 2 and the legacy Nintendo Switch hardware.

The July 2025 report marks the first official mention of the Nintendo Switch 2's sales figures and its impact on the company’s broader business. The Nintendo Switch 2, which debuted globally on June 5, 2025, recorded exceptional momentum out of the gate.

Within the first four days post-launch, global sell-through sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 exceeded 3.5 million units.

According to Nintendo, this represents the highest four-day sales total for any dedicated Nintendo game console to date.

By the end of the quarter (April to June 2025), total hardware sales for the Nintendo Switch 2 reached 5.82 million units, while software sales totaled 8.67 million units. Mario Kart World, launched alongside the new hardware, emerged as a driving force behind these results.

The title achieved 5.63 million units sold, which includes both stand-alone and hardware bundle sales.

Nintendo noted that strong demand for Switch 2 hardware has outpaced internal projections, prompting a ramp-up in production to meet consumer needs.

Furthermore, the system’s backward compatibility enabled continued sales momentum for established titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree, both of which performed well on the new platform. Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch system continues to hold a strong position.

Cumulative hardware sales for the Nintendo Switch have now reached 153.10 million units worldwide, while software sales have climbed to an impressive 1,415.63 million units.

During Q1 2025, the Switch saw sales of 0.98 million hardware units and 24.40 million software units, demonstrating enduring interest in the seven-year-old platform. Digital business for Nintendo's platforms totaled 69.8 billion yen for the quarter, reflecting a 13.5% year-over-year decrease attributed mainly to lower sales of downloadable packaged software for the original Switch.

IP-related businesses, including mobile and film ventures, reported sales of 16.7 billion yen, down 4.4% from the previous year due to a drop in movie-related revenue. Overall, net sales for the quarter reached 572.3 billion yen, with overseas markets accounting for 79.5% (455.0 billion yen).

Operating profit stood at 56.9 billion yen, with ordinary profit at 95.8 billion yen and profit attributable to owners totaling 96.0 billion yen, the latter figure buoyed by a gain from the sale of investment securities. Looking ahead, Nintendo affirmed there are no changes to its previously announced financial forecast for the rest of the fiscal year.

The company reiterated its intentions to expand the Nintendo Switch 2 user base, highlighting the platform's enhanced performance and innovative features.

Upcoming releases for the Switch 2 include Donkey Kong Bananza and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV in July, Drag x Drive and Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World in August, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, along with a dedicated hardware bundle, in October.

Nintendo further emphasized ongoing support for the original Switch, aiming to leverage its vast installed base and evergreen software catalog to sustain engagement and sales. Nintendo’s strong start with the Switch 2, combined with steady sales of legacy hardware and a robust release schedule for both platforms, solidifies the company's position in the gaming hardware market heading into the remainder of 2025.
