Description

Nintendo has officially shared comprehensive details regarding the Nintendo Switch eShop, resolving one of the last major questions surrounding the launch of its highly anticipated hybrid console.

The announcement, issued via press release, outlines the eShop’s rollout schedule, supported titles, and how existing Nintendo accounts will integrate with Switch features. Kicking off its commitment to indie games—often referred to as 'Nindies'—Nintendo has scheduled a dedicated Nindies Showcase video presentation for February 28th at 9 a.m.

PT.

This event is expected to shine a spotlight on upcoming indie titles, reinforcing Nintendo’s continued emphasis on supporting independent developers.

Company representatives confirmed that over 60 indie games are destined for the Switch eShop, complementing downloadable releases of packaged games, additional content, and more. Further details from Nintendo highlight the addition of two new launch day games.

FAST RMX, the latest racing title from established developer Shin’en, will be available on day one.

Meanwhile, Yacht Club Games brings Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, the newest expansion for their highly acclaimed platformer.

Fans will also be able to purchase the comprehensive Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove collection, which includes all previous downloadable content (DLC) and the base game, starting March 3rd. Nintendo has also addressed user concerns regarding account balances across its platforms.

Players who have remaining funds in their 3DS and Wii U eShop accounts will be able to utilize those balances on the Nintendo Switch, provided their Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID (NNID) are properly linked.

This cross-platform compatibility is designed to offer a seamless transition for longtime Nintendo customers. One important note for classic gaming enthusiasts: while the Nintendo Switch will not support Virtual Console at launch, Nintendo has indicated that further updates regarding legacy content will be shared in the future.

This statement highlights the company’s intent to keep fans informed about additional services as they develop. Accessing the eShop on day one will require users to perform a system update.

Nintendo has assured customers that this update will download automatically in the background and complete swiftly, ensuring minimal disruption to gameplay or purchasing activities. Be sure to check back for live coverage of the February 28th Nindies Showcase, where more information about the first wave of indie games coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop will be revealed.
