Description

Nintendo has officially postponed pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States as it assesses the impact of newly announced tariffs from the Trump Administration.

Despite this pause in pre-orders, the Japanese gaming giant has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 launch will proceed as scheduled on June 5, 2025.

According to a recent update from Nintendo, conveyed through outlets such as The Verge, pre-orders initially planned for April 9, 2025 have been put on hold.

The company clarified its position in a statement, explaining, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S.

will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.

Nintendo will update timing at a later date.

The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.” The delay comes in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement of significant tariffs: a 46% tariff imposed on imports from Vietnam, where the Switch 2 is manufactured, and a 24% tariff on imports from Japan, the country responsible for producing the physical Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges.

These new tariffs pose considerable challenges for Nintendo in maintaining previously announced pricing for its next-generation console. As of now, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to retail at $449.99 for the standalone unit, while a bundled package—including Mario Kart World—will be available at $499.99.

Although the company has not issued any indication of an imminent change in pricing, industry analysts note that such tariffs could potentially lead to adjustments if market conditions require.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the pre-order timeline, Nintendo reiterated its commitment to the original Switch 2 release date, ensuring fans that the console’s June debut will proceed without delay.

The move underscores Nintendo’s determination to navigate evolving international economic conditions and maintain its launch schedule for one of the most anticipated hardware releases in recent years.

As the gaming industry closely monitors these developments, Nintendo has pledged to provide updates on U.S.

pre-orders as soon as their evaluation is complete.
