Nintendo has officially announced an acquisition that signals a bold new chapter in the company's strategy to leverage its world-famous video game properties across new entertainment mediums.
The Kyoto-based gaming giant disclosed this morning that it is finalizing a deal to acquire Dynamo Pictures, a respected visual content studio.
Once the transaction is complete, Dynamo Pictures will be rebranded as Nintendo Pictures, aligning closely with the company’s iconic brand identity and creative ambitions.
According to Nintendo’s official statement on the acquisition, Nintendo Pictures will "focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP." The move is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at extending the reach of beloved franchises beyond traditional handheld and console gaming.
By strengthening its foothold in animation and film production, Nintendo is following through on a long-held vision to see characters like Mario, Link, and Samus appear in a wider range of entertainment formats.
The acquisition comes as Nintendo continues to expand its presence outside core gaming.
Previous ventures include partnerships with DeNA on mobile titles, theme park attractions in collaboration with Universal Studios, and the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros.

Each project builds upon Nintendo’s commitment to introducing its intellectual properties to new audiences around the globe.
"Nintendo Pictures will serve as a creative hub, developing visual content that leverages the strength and appeal of Nintendo's IP portfolio," the company’s acquisition notice stated.
This marks an important step for Nintendo as it seeks to own and manage its visual storytelling more directly, potentially reducing reliance on outside studios for adaptation and co-production.
Dynamo Pictures, soon to be Nintendo Pictures, has an impressive pedigree in animation and visual effects.
Its expertise encompasses a variety of high-profile projects, making it an ideal partner to translate Nintendo’s imaginative worlds into new forms of media.
By bringing these capabilities in-house, Nintendo is better positioned to ensure creative coherence and authenticity across its expanding array of content.
Nintendo expects to complete the acquisition by October 3.
The announcement also comes at a pivotal time, as the company prepares for the theatrical release of the Super Mario Bros.

These milestones reinforce Nintendo’s commitment to become a cross-media entertainment powerhouse, where classic game experiences coexist with animation, cinema, merchandise, and interactive attractions.
As Nintendo continues to update fans and stakeholders on its animation, television, and movie projects, the industry will be keeping a close eye on how Nintendo Pictures shapes the future of the company's intellectual properties across platforms including the Nintendo Switch, eShop, and beyond.
