Description

Dotemu and The Game Kitchen have rolled out a major patch for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, enhancing the high-intensity action experience for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners.

As one of the standout recent releases on the Nintendo eShop, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound delivers classic hack-and-slash platforming with modern twists, and this latest update further solidifies its reputation among genre fans. A headline addition in the new patch is the performance mode, which targets a smoother 60 frames per second (fps) gaming experience.

According to the official announcement from Dotemu, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will now offer a selectable 60fps option.

However, Dotemu advises that this enhanced frame rate is best suited for players on the Nintendo Switch 2, as the original Switch hardware will continue to run the game at 30fps by default.

Gamers can toggle the frame rate setting, along with a newly introduced CRT filter for retro aesthetics, by navigating to the Options and Video menus. The update is not just about visuals and performance.

Dotemu and The Game Kitchen have implemented numerous gameplay improvements and quality-of-life additions.

Players can now choose to restart from the last checkpoint instead of beginning a level anew, streamlining the process of retrying challenging sections or boss encounters.

Additionally, unlocking Hard Mode no longer requires completing the entire game; defeating Ryu in the initial stage now grants earlier access for those eager for tougher challenges. Fresh content has also been added, including new dialogue at the beginning of select levels (S-4, S-5, and S-6), and an alternative portrait for the Masked Agent boss in level 4-4, further enriching the game's storytelling and presentation.

Accessibility updates allow users to disable hit stop and screen shake effects, catering to different player preferences.

Sound design has seen upgrades as well, with additional sound effects improving the experience across enemies, projectiles, and menu navigation. For completionists, the patch delivers good news: Golden Skins, previously locked behind the game's final level, can now be claimed immediately after achieving an S rank on all stages.

Controller support has also been expanded, with DirectInput devices now recognized. Extensive bug fixes form a backbone of the patch, addressing a wide spectrum of gameplay, collision, camera, and audio issues.

Highlights include resolving problems where characters could leave camera bounds, improper enemy behavior during boss fights, stability with cutscenes, motorbike controls, and animation glitches.

Performance refinements and minor fixes further polish the overall experience. When reviewing Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound last August, performance—specifically frame rate—was a frequent point of community feedback.

While the standard Nintendo Switch version remains capped at 30fps, Switch 2 owners can now enjoy the game's fast-paced action at a responsive, smooth 60fps, marking a notable technical achievement for the franchise. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound continues to evolve, thanks to active collaboration between Dotemu and The Game Kitchen.

With expanded features, accessibility improvements, and robust support for Nintendo hardware, the game remains a fixture on the Nintendo eShop and a must-play for fans of action platformers.
