Masayuki Kato, the esteemed founder of Nihon Falcom and a defining figure in Japanese game development, has passed away at the age of 78 on December 15, 2024.

Kato, whose visionary leadership shaped the action RPG genre, leaves behind an enduring legacy marked by critically acclaimed series and industry innovations. Kato laid the foundation for Nihon Falcom in 1981 at just 34 years old.

Under his guidance, the company developed iconic titles such as the Ys and The Legend of Heroes series.
