Super Mario Galaxy 2 Update: New Storybook Chapter, Nintendo Music Track, and Switch Online Icons

Nintendo has rolled out a fresh update tied to Super Mario Galaxy 2 that expands the game’s in-world Storybook content and ties into Nintendo Switch Online features. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are 3D platformers developed by Nintendo EAD and originally released for Wii (Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 2010). The two titles remain notable entries in Nintendo's catalog and continue to receive attention through digital services and companion apps. According to Nintendo’s announcement, the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Storybook receives a new fifth chapter that continues "the story of the twin Lumas." Nintendo clarified that the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Storybook chronicles the adventures of the twin Lumas—identified in the update as Mari and Lu—and the "lady of shooting stars." Players can access the new chapter after clearing any galaxy in the game and obtaining a Power Star. The company also confirmed that a new musical track tied to the latest Storybook chapter has been added to the Super Mario Galaxy 2 playlist in the Nintendo Music app. Nintendo said the Nintendo Music app is available to Nintendo Switch Online members and provides access to soundtracks from a variety of Nintendo franchises. As with other Nintendo Switch Online benefits, a Nintendo Account and an active membership are required to use the music service. Nintendo Switch Online members can also customize their Switch profiles with new icon elements themed to Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. The announcement explains that members should open the Nintendo Switch Online option on the Switch HOME Menu, navigate to the Missions & Rewards tab, and redeem My Nintendo Platinum Points to claim icon elements including characters, backgrounds, and frames. Finally, Nintendo's message notes that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now playing in theaters nationwide. The company reiterated standard account and membership requirements for online features and promoted the official terms pages for additional details. This update illustrates Nintendo’s ongoing support for its classic properties through companion apps and online services. Fans of the Galaxy series who still play the games on compatible systems or who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online can access the new Storybook chapter, enjoy the added music track, and claim themed profile items via My Nintendo.
