Neverway, the highly anticipated indie psychological horror game, will officially launch in October, bringing its unique blend of narrative immersion and atmospheric pixel art to the Nintendo Switch.
The title is a collaboration between Pedro Medeiros, renowned for his artistic contributions to celebrated indie hits Celeste and TowerFall, and Isadora Sophia, a former senior software engineer at Microsoft, who developed the game's core engine known as the Murder Engine.
Heidy Motta, instrumental in community and operations for both Celeste and TowerFall, also plays an integral role in Neverway’s development, reinforcing the game’s strong indie pedigree.
The project is funded by Outersloth, the investment wing of Innersloth—the award-winning studio behind Among Us.
Outersloth's involvement highlights the growing enthusiasm from established indie powerhouses to back innovative and story-driven titles within the Nintendo Switch eShop ecosystem.
Neverway centers around Fiona, a protagonist striving for a second chance at life after leaving her unfulfilling job.
She hopes to embrace a simpler existence by running a farm, but soon finds herself thrust into a chilling and surreal narrative.
Fiona is forced to balance the daily challenges of her new rural life with the burdens of becoming an immortal herald of a deceased god, confronting psychological horror elements that steadily blur the lines between reality and nightmare.
Players will unravel Fiona’s struggle as they search for "Neverway," a disturbing alternate reality merging inexorably with her own world.
The game’s multi-layered storytelling, coupled with player-driven decisions and exploration, encourages a deep sense of immersion rarely seen in the genre.
The journey is punctuated by haunting monochromatic pixel art, a signature style elevated by the game’s original soundtrack.
Neverway’s audio landscape is crafted by Disasterpeace, the acclaimed composer known for his evocative work on Fez, Hyper Light Drifter, and the cult hit film It Follows.
Disasterpeace’s involvement infuses the game with a deeply haunting and memorable soundscape, complementing both its visual style and psychological themes.
Nintendo Switch players can look forward to Neverway arriving this October, joining the growing library of narrative-driven indie experiences available on the platform.
Stay tuned for additional updates on the definitive release date and upcoming trailers.
