SelectaPlay and Hungry Pixel have officially announced that a demo for their narrative-driven 2D action adventure title, NetherWorld, is now available for download on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Europe.
While players in North America may need to wait a bit longer for access, the demo's European launch marks an exciting milestone for the anticipated indie release.
NetherWorld is a story-focused action adventure game that plunges players into the eccentric and chaotic world of Medoo, a recently heartbroken jellyfish navigating a bizarre underbelly of pixel art landscapes.
The game is celebrated for its distinctive blend of narrative depth, dark humor, and retro-inspired visuals, all of which are now showcased in the newly released Switch demo.
According to SelectaPlay and Hungry Pixel, the demo offers a hands-on preview of NetherWorld’s core features, giving players the chance to interact with the game’s unconventional characters and environments.
"The European eShop demo lets fans experience the offbeat humor and combat mechanics that define NetherWorld," a representative from SelectaPlay stated in an official release.
In NetherWorld, players take on the role of Medoo, who must contend with an unpredictable cast of strippers, sociopaths, cultists, and con artists in his search for meaning.
The game’s unique tone is accompanied by a variety of mini-games, combining elements like boxing with bar drunks, bullet-dodging challenges, and navigating roguelike dungeons.
Combat is a central feature as well, with epic boss fights requiring skill, resourcefulness, and a bit of spite to survive against absurdly monstrous foes.
The Nintendo Switch demo, accessible through the Nintendo eShop’s European storefront, provides a first look at NetherWorld’s mechanics and atmosphere ahead of the full game’s launch later this year.
Details on a physical release have also been confirmed, emphasizing SelectaPlay and Hungry Pixel’s commitment to making NetherWorld widely available for both digital and physical collectors.
NetherWorld’s demo trailer is now live, giving prospective players a visual preview of the gameplay, narrative elements, and pixel art style that define the experience.
As the game continues to build momentum in the indie scene, Nintendo Switch owners can look forward to more updates on release dates and eShop availability shortly.
For now, fans in Europe can jump into the demo and immerse themselves in one of the most intriguing indie adventures coming to Nintendo’s platform in 2024.
