Muramasa: Revenant Blades Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch — Full English Voiceover, 4K Support

Marvelous has announced Muramasa: Revenant Blades for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, bringing Vanillaware’s 2D action RPG back to Nintendo’s portable home consoles with a suite of technical and content upgrades.

Marketed as an “elevated revival of Muramasa: Rebirth,” the new release is notable for introducing full English voiceover and expanded localisations for the first time in the series.

Originally developed by Vanillaware, Muramasa debuted on the Wii in 2009 and was later ported to PlayStation Vita in 2013.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades preserves the franchise’s side-scrolling hack-and-slash foundations while adding modern enhancements: support for up to 4K resolution, updated controls, new combat and weapon systems, and additional modes and gameplay options.

The publisher confirms the title will arrive both at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop worldwide in early 2027.

In a press release, Marvelous framed the story around legendary blades forged by Senji Muramasa.

The publisher explained that those swords grant great power but also a dangerous madness, igniting conflict among rival factions and drawing demons and vengeful spirits into the turmoil.

The narrative follows six protagonists whose lives are upended by the revenant blades.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades will feature the original leads Momohime and Kisuke alongside Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru and Rajaki—characters first introduced in the PlayStation Vita version.

Marvelous says all six storylines will be available from the start, allowing players to experience any character’s route in any order.

The release also highlights a range of gameplay systems: over 100 swords to forge, dozens of upgradeable skills, and variable gameplay styles with new modes intended to broaden replayability.

Key features outlined by the publisher include the new localisation with English voiceover, a complete collection of six stories at launch, enhanced visuals up to 4K, and refined combat and weapon mechanics.

Vanillaware and Marvelous have positioned Revenant Blades as the definitive edition of the title, combining the developer’s signature 2D art and animation with modern platform capabilities.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades is scheduled for worldwide release on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in early 2027, available both physically and via the Nintendo eShop.
