Discotek Media, the boutique publisher well-known for its meticulous restoration of classic animation, has announced a new standard edition Blu-Ray release of the beloved Ruby-Spears Mega Man animated TV series.
Revealed during an Otakon panel over the past weekend, Discotek Media is set to deliver a comprehensive physical home release that will delight both long-standing fans and newcomers to the Mega Man franchise.
The animated Mega Man series, which originally aired from 1994 to 1996, ran for two seasons and quickly became a centerpiece on Saturday morning television for a generation of gamers.
Adapted from Capcom's globally successful video game series, the show follows the adventures of the blue-suited hero Mega Man as he thwarts the schemes of the villainous Dr.
Wily, joined by an ensemble of allies.
Its engaging storytelling and faithful homage to the source material helped it carve out a dedicated fanbase, especially among younger Nintendo and Capcom enthusiasts during its syndicated run.
While Mega Man has seen various home media releases over the years, most notably a DVD edition released by Discotek Media in 2014, this marks the series' most definitive edition to date.
According to Discotek, the company collaborated closely with members of the Mega Man fan community, including leading news site Rockman Corner, to assemble a release that features both the full series and an impressive array of extras.
Among the confirmed features, the Blu-Ray set includes all 27 original episodes in standard definition, with episode one newly restored to play at its correct speed—a notable improvement for collectors.
Added bonus materials further distinguish this release: the original animated pitch pilot, vintage TV commercials and promotional toy adverts, exclusive scans of the show's press kit, art galleries, and access to the series bible.
Additionally, the set features brand-new commentary from Ian James Corlett, the original voice actor for Mega Man, offering retrospective insights that are sure to appeal to long-time followers of the animated adaptation.
A spokesperson for Discotek Media stated that their goal was to create a more comprehensive release than previous editions, tapping into rarely-seen archival material and insightful commentary, much of which was initially intended for earlier releases but never included.
While an exact release date has yet to be announced, Discotek Media confirmed that more details, including potential release windows and pre-order information, will be shared in the near future.
Fans eager to revisit the animated adventures of Mega Man, or to experience them for the first time, can look forward to what will undoubtedly be the definitive home media edition of this Capcom classic on Blu-Ray.
