In an eagerly anticipated move for fans of both Pokémon and collectible toys, McDonald’s Japan has announced a special promotion beginning on August 8, 2025.
For a limited period, customers visiting McDonald’s locations across Japan will have the chance to collect a new series of exclusive Pokémon Happy Meal toys, alongside the previously reported Pokémon trading cards.
This targeted collaboration continues Pokémon’s tradition of engaging fans with unique merchandise and marks another milestone for the brand and its enduring popularity.
Among the featured Pokémon figures set to appear in the promotion are familiar favorites such as Pikachu, Squirtle, Charmander, and the Mega Evolution form of Charizard, Mega Charizard X.
According to official statements from McDonald's Japan, all toys will be available for several weeks while supplies last.
Furthermore, the company has hinted at the introduction of a secret, unannounced toy that remains under wraps, adding an element of surprise for collectors and enthusiasts.
These limited-edition items are expected to attract both Pokémon trainers and toy collectors, given the strong market presence of Pokémon merchandise in Japan.
The collaboration does not end with toys—in conjunction with the Pokémon items, McDonald’s Japan is introducing a special edition booklet adapted from the popular South Korean comic series, "Survival." Designed to engage and educate, this edition follows the main characters as they visit a zombie-themed amusement park.
The comic aims to teach children about physics principles through the context of roller coasters and amusement park rides, reinforcing learning in a fun and accessible manner.
Priced at approximately ¥490, each booklet also includes a QR code, granting access to exclusive mobile games related to the comic series.
These games will remain playable until September 30, 2025, providing an extended interactive experience for buyers.
The partnership between McDonald’s Japan and Pokémon comes at a time of sustained global interest in Pokémon games and merchandise, bolstered by releases such as Pokémon Legends: Z-A and companion applications like the Pokémon Friends app available on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android platforms.
Weekly Shōnen Jump, a major entity in Japanese pop culture, is also coordinating with Pokémon for a series of collaboration illustrations, further solidifying the franchise’s prominence across media.
As stated by McDonald’s Japan’s promotional materials, the campaign is designed to "bring joy to Pokémon fans of all ages," emphasizing both the collectible nature of the toys and the educational aspect of the comic tie-in.
With Pokémon continuing to set sales records on physical and digital platforms like the Nintendo Switch eShop, this unique cross-promotion is poised to be a focal point for both longtime fans and new ones eager to engage with the brand’s latest initiatives.
Pokémon enthusiasts and Nintendo Switch users visiting Japan during August 2025 should be sure to stop by their local McDonald’s to explore these special offerings while they last.
