Kinetic Publishing and indie studio Vonder Games have announced that their cosy wizard life sim Aether Wizard Life is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, with a digital release planned on the Nintendo eShop worldwide in Autumn 2028.

The announcement provides an overview of the setting, core systems, and the studio’s creative inspirations.

Aether Wizard Life places players in the haunted town of Starfell, where spirits and a clandestine organisation threaten the local wizarding community.

Players assume the role of a young apprentice mage who awakens each morning aboard a customisable walking castle.

From that mobile base, players choose daily activities such as cultivating magical crops, caring for exotic creatures, running a tavern, exploring dungeons and confronting monsters, and undertaking requests from townsfolk.

The developers describe a persistent narrative thread alongside open-ended gameplay: investigating a secret group responsible for kidnapping mages and burning them at the stake.

The game’s systems are presented around player choice and progression—players can discover more than 30 wizard skills covering spellcasting, weapon crafting, summoning, elemental combat, rune crafting and time manipulation, according to the announcement.

Vonder Games producer Shin Wang said the team drew creative inspiration from contemporary indie hits and animated studio work; in journalistic terms, Wang explained that the studio looked to games such as Spiritfarer, Stardew Valley and Dave the Diver, alongside the animation style of Studio Ghibli, to craft a world where players can decide how to spend each day and feel a sense of belonging in the game’s community.

Key features listed by the publisher include the Move-in Castle system that lets players build and customise a walking castle, a romance mechanic with dateable NPCs, multiple activity tracks (botany, potion brewing, animal care, tavern management, dungeon exploration), and an emphasis on solving Starfell’s central mystery by collecting clues and helping the town recover.

Aether Wizard Life’s announcement was accompanied by a trailer and developer materials outlining these features.

The game will launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 in Autumn 2028.

The original report and developer quotes were shared by Alex Seedhouse, a long-time Nintendo reporter with extensive coverage of Nintendo hardware and software.
