Nintendo Announces Mario Kart World Online Challenge: Summer Vacation Skill Test Event in Japan Nintendo has officially announced a new online event for Mario Kart World, exclusively targeting players in Japan later this month.

Titled "Online Challenge: Summer Vacation Skill Test," this competitive event is scheduled for August 23rd and will take place from 5 p.m.

to 7 p.m.

JST.

The event aims to engage Mario Kart enthusiasts on the Nintendo Switch platform through an exciting two-hour tournament, emphasizing skill and competition within the game's 150cc races. According to the latest update on Nintendo’s official Japanese website, participants in the event will compete in 150cc races, with each player starting at a rating of 3,000.

Ratings will adjust after each race based on player performance, adding a dynamic leaderboard experience.

Those who accumulate the highest scores during the duration of the challenge will secure a position among the top 100 players displayed on Nintendo’s website.

In a move to foster diverse competition, Nintendo will also offer top 100 rankings for each character used, allowing players a chance to shine in individual character leaderboards even if they do not reach the overall top 100. The "Online Challenge: Summer Vacation Skill Test" event also showcases Mario Kart World’s newly introduced "Search for an event" feature.

To participate, players must access the online menu, press the Minus button, and enter the event ID "2378".

By doing this before the event begins, competitors can review the rules and even play practice matches using the same settings as the upcoming challenge. Although global Mario Kart fans can join the event, only participants located in Japan will be eligible for event rankings.

Entry requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, reinforcing the subscription’s value for dedicated racers.

Nintendo has confirmed that similar online challenges will be held in the future, although there is no formal announcement from Nintendo of America or Nintendo of Europe regarding regional equivalents at this time. The announcement of the Online Challenge event underlines Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to enhancing Mario Kart World through innovative features and engaging multiplayer experiences.

Coupled with recent updates—like increased frequency of three-lap races in online play and the addition of 32 Mario Kart 64 tracks to the Nintendo Music service—Mario Kart World continues to underscore its status as a flagship title for the Nintendo Switch.

As the Nintendo Switch secures strong sales momentum, with the upcoming hardware often dubbed "Switch 2" already moving over six million units in under two months, the enduring popularity of Mario Kart World is evident in its robust player base and expanding online events calendar. For additional information about the event and detailed participation instructions, players are encouraged to visit Nintendo’s official website.
